Light micrograph of Feulgen-stained metaphase I of meiosis in anther of Luzula echinata. Two bivalents (arrows) show orientation on the metaphase plate that will result in an equational first division followed by a reductional second division. The other four bivalents will follow the "typical" sequence of a reductional first division followed by an equational second division.
